BOMBAntillana is a collective of people of all ages and backgrounds, coming together to connect with ourselves, each other, and our ancestors through the powerful art form of Bomba.

BOMBAntillana welcomes anyone interested in exploring and honoring the ancestral roots of Borikén/Puerto Rico while learning to play percussion instruments, sing, and move through Bomba. People of all ages and abilities are welcome and we learn together in the same space. Bomba is communal — and so is our approach to teaching and learning.

Based in Boston, BOMBAntillana explores the deep history and living tradition of Bomba — learning traditional songs and rhythms, and practicing the art of movement and improvisation to tell our stories.

As one of the oldest surviving musical traditions of Borikén (Puerto Rico), Bomba carries the powerful forces of history. It was shaped by the experiences of West African and Taíno peoples during Spanish colonization on the island and beyond. Bomba was created as a tool for expression, healing, resistance, and even for organizing secret escape plans during times of enslavement. Today, Bomba remains a vital tool for personal and communal empowerment — a way to release what no longer serves us and make space for the blessings to come.
